Webmail Mailbox View

Mailbox View settings let you decide how to view messages in your inbox, and which folders to check for new messages.

Main Options

You have several options for viewing messages in your inbox.

Show Preview Pane

If you activate the preview pane, a click on a message (unread or read) will display the contents of the message below the list of messages.

If you do not activate the preview pane, you must double-click to view the message.

The message will then replace the list of emails in the inbox or folder (default), or open in a new window (if you set this in the Displaying Messages preferences).

To show the preview pane, add a check to the box.

Mark Previewed Messages as Read

If you activate the preview pane (above), you can decide when to mark previewed new messages as read.

The default is immediately, which means that previewing the message also marks it as read.

You can delay that that by 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds. Messages that you preview will only be marked as read after the time period you select.

If you move on to another message before the time is up, the message you just viewed is not marked as read. It remains unread. Only messages that you preview for the full time set here will become read.

If you prefer, you can turn this off by selecting never from the menu. When you preview new messages, they will never be marked as read.

Why use previews? One reason is to quickly scan messages for spam. Your Webmail inbox should receive few, but a quick preview of each new message will tell you if you have any.

If you do, click in the flag column to add a flag to that message. Then delete them by clicking on the Delete button.

(For details on all the tools available to you when reading mail, click here.)

Another reason to preview messages is to decide whether you need to respond to it now, or it can be put off until you complete more important tasks.

On Request for Return Receipt

Return receipts are rarely used now, as most mail systems don't offer the option. So you will likely receive few of them.

We recommend setting it to ignore.

Expand Message Threads

If you prefer to organize all the emails you've sent and received about one topic into one thread, set this option to either all threads or only with unread messages (we recommend the latter).

Rows per Page

How many individual emails do you want to view on one page. Replace the default 50 by clicking in the box, deleting "50," and typing in the number you want. The higher the number, the fewer pages of emails you will have. But each page will be longer.

When you're done, click on Save to save the changes you made to your Mailbox View preferences.
