Webmail Displaying Messages

You can have incoming messages display how you prefer to view them (HTML or plain text, images displayed or not, etc.).

Main Options

Open Message in a New Window

By default, opening an unread or read email replaces the list of emails with the contents of the one you want to read.

You can change this here. Add a check to the box to have each message appear in a new window (or tab, depending your your browser's settings).

Show Email Address With Display Name

At the top of every open message, you'll see the sender's name...

Sender's name

If you also want to see the email address that sent the message, add a check to this box.

Sender's name and email address

Display HTML

Many emails that you receive will have been sent in HTML format.

This format makes the emails look more like web pages that conventional plain text emails. They may have fancy fonts, multiple headlines of different sizes. In general, they are more visually appealing than plain text emails.

If you want to receive messages as they were designed, add a check to this box.

Display Remote Inline Images

If your Internet connection is slow, you may not want to display images in the emails you open. If that's the case, leave this setting at never.

If you set Display HTML (above), you may want to display images in the emails. You have the option of displaying them only from known senders (recommended) or always.

Displaying them only from known senders will ensure that malware-infected images sent in spam messages or messages from people or companies you don't know can't infect your computer.

Also note that spammers send inline images to verify that your email address works. They will then send you more spam. That's why we recommend that you set this to from known senders.

Display Attached Images Below the Message

If the email contains images that were sent along with the message (which is different than remote inline images, discussed above), you can choose where to display the images.

The default is to show the images where they have been placed in the email. If you add a check to the box, all the images will display at the end of the email.

Note that if you set this preference, any text references to a particular image may not make sense, as the image will not be next to the reference to it.

After Message Delete/Move Display the Next Message

You can force Webmail to open the next message when you delete a message, or when you move a message to a folder.

If you want the next message to open automatically, add a check to the box.

Note that this option does not affect previewed messages, since they are not technically open. This option only works on a message that's currently open.

Advanced Options

Click on the left-pointing arrow to the right of Advanced options to view them.

The default character set is ISO-8859-1 (Western European). If you receive a lot of email from Russia, the Middle East, or Asia, you'll want to set this to UTF-8 (Unicode).
