Browser Options

Directions for Use
  • Add a check to Handle popups as standard windows if you want to open a regular window or tab when composing or reading mail. Leave it unchecked if you want a smaller popup window to appear.
  • Click on Register protocol handler for mailto: links if you want to always open Webmail when you click on a mail address on a web page. Click on Add Application at the top of the page (Firefox). In Chrome, click on Allow.
  • Click on Save to save the changes you made to your preferences.

Handle Popups as Standard Windows

In Displaying Messages, every time you click an email link to read it, or click on Compose to create a new email, a small popup window appears. You can make Webmail always open either a full size new window, or a new tab (depending on your browser settings).

Do that by adding a check to Handle popups as standard windows.

Note that the popup will become a full-size window or a tab only if you add a check to Open Message in a New Window in the Displaying Messages preferences.

Register Protocol Handler for mailto: Links

Chrome and Firefox allow you to make Webmail the default mail handler whenever you click on a live mail link (mailto:) on a web page.

Safari and Internet Explorer do not allow this (the link is grayed out). It can be done with Safari, but only with some changes to OS X itself. We recommend that you not attempt this. The risk isn't worth the reward, as mailto: links are not common these days. Most websites use forms to allow visitors to contact the webmaster or other person involved with the site.

To set either Chrome or Firefox, click on the Register protocol handler for mailto: links link. At the top of the browser window, you'll see a question, asking if you want to allow Webmail to open all email links. In Firefox, click on Add Application. In Chrome, click on Allow.

In Firefox, the first time you click on a mailto: link, you'll see a small dialog box. Choose how you want your browser to handle the mail. It will display all the options available to you, so be sure to select SBI! Webmail. And if you want your browser to remember this setting, add a check to Remember my choice for mailto links.

When you're done, click on Save to save the changes you made to your User Interface preferences.
