Site Health

The Site Health module lets you immediately see anything that needs to be fixed on your site. Think of it as your site's virtual system administrator (or sysadmin).

It will update the current report as you fix each reported item. All you have to do is refresh the report page. You do not have to run the report again to remove fixed items.

If you're publishing or updating lots of pages, run the report once a week to check for broken links, CSS references that are not HTTPS, image references that are not HTTPS, and JavaScript references that are not HTTPS.

If you're not publishing or updating frequently, run the report biweekly or monthly.

Last Check and Number of Issues

At the top of the page, you'll see...

Use the button to run the report after fixing all the reported issues, to ensure that you didn't miss any.

Important Note

Site Health has its own icon in the Site Central dashboard. It will indicate to you if there are any problems to fix after the automatic weekly check.

Click on the icon to open an overlay that shows any broken links to fix or non-secure items to remove or replace. Click on the Go to Site Health link in the overlay to go to the module to see the list of issues.

Or go to the module directly. It's located in the All Pages section of Site Central (in the same column as Site Designer).

Display, Collapse All and Expand All

Just below the button are a filter menu (on the left) and two text links (on the right).

The menu lets you view only the items you want to work on now. Hide the others until you're ready to work on them.

You can also collapse the information about the problems on each page. If there are a lot of problems, this is a quick way to view only which pages have problems.

Also close each one once you've fixed all the problems on that page. Click on the small triangle to the left of the file name to do that.

Click the small triangle to expand the page again when you want to see all the information about each problem on a page.

Reusable Blocks and Sitewide Dots

The Reusable Blocks and Sitewide Dots section lists all the Reusable Blocks and Sitewide Dots on your site that have a broken link, or a non-secure JavaScript, image, CSS reference, or an old or invalid Google Analytics snippet.

Broken links have a broken chain link icon next to the URL. Non-secure reference URLs have an unlocked lock icon next to them. The Google Analytics issues have a GA icon.

There's also a red indicator that tells you how many issues there are in each Reusable Block and Sitewide Dot.

You can hide the information about problems for any block or dot by clicking on the small down-pointing triangle to the left of the file name.

Click on it again to show the problems again. Use this feature when you're not ready to fix the problem(s) for a particular page.

Fix all the non-secure items by right-clicking the Site Central link in the top right of the Site Health page and opening it in a new window or tab. Edit each problem page in BB2 (or edit each UYOH file in your HTML editor).

For non-secure URL issues, the Raw HTML Block with the problem code will have a small yellow warning triangle.

If you have several broken outbound links (links to other sites), go to the Link Library instead. Click on a link and then on modify. Change the link to the correct one.

If there's no working URL (the destination site is gone, or the page is gone), edit the page and remove the broken link code.

Important

Each Sitewide Dot (if any) is listed with the name that appears when you hover over the orange dot in BB2, or over the "container" that holds everything inside the dot.

If there's any broken link or non-secure item in End of Head, those links and items are located in the Sitewide or This Page Only text box that appears after you click on the Head button, located just below the BlockBuilder tab in the top right of BB2.

Make your changes in the text box(es), save the changes, and then rebuild the page as you would with any other change to a page.

Pages

The Pages section lists all pages of your site that have a broken link, or a non-secure JavaScript, image or CSS reference, outdated breadcrumb navigation code, or two or more Google Analytics code snippets.

As with Reusable Blocks and Sitewide Dots, broken links have a broken chain link icon next to the URL. Non-secure reference URLs have an unlocked lock icon next to them.

Pages with old breadcrumb code have a >. And pages with Google Analytics issues have a GA icon.

Pages with a Google Analytics issue have a GA icon to the left of the message.

The red indicator tells you how many issues there are on each page.

You can hide the information about problems for any page by clicking on the small down-pointing triangle to the left of the file name.

If you see the notice about outdated breadcrumb code, open Site Central in a new tab, then edit the page in BB2, replacing the existing data-vocabulary.org code with a breadcrumb built with the new system. Learn more about it in this article...

Export to CSV

If you want to keep records of what issues you fixed and when you fixed them, you can export them to a CSV (comma-separated values) file.

Choose either to export only the page names and Reusable Block/Sitewide Dot names (no problems exported), or all the names and all the problems.

Click on the Download File button to export the file.
