Google Analytics Traffic Statistics

Traffic is your lifeblood. You need the means to do some "blood tests" to determine your site's health. That's what Google Analytics is for.

Clicking on GA Stats in the Site Central dashboard opens an overlay. Click on the Traffic Stats link to open a new page that provides data for the previous 30 days.

Below are discussions of each section of the GA Traffic Stats page.

Date Range

Change the date range by clicking on change the date to the right of the default dates.

Select an option, or click on a date in the calendar on the left to begin the range, and a date to end the range in the calendar on the right.

Confirm (to the left of the Clear button) that you want the selected date range.

Click Apply to complete the change. Or click Clear to set a different range.

Pageviews

Pageviews shows the number of pages people visited during the selected date range.

To see the number of pageviews for an individual day, hover over the dark blue dots until you find the day you're looking for.

Users

Users shows the total number of people who visited your site during the date range you selected.

Top 10 Pages

This section lists the 10 pages with the most pageviews. This includes links from other pages of your site, and links from other sites.

Top Landing Pages

This section lists the 10 pages with the most pageviews from people landing on the page after clicking a link on another site. It does not include clicks from other pages of your site.

Engagement Rate

This section lists the pages with the highest engagement rate.

The engagement rate for a page is the percentage of sessions (during the date range) where someone took an action on the page during that session, divided by the total number of sessions for that page. The higher the number, the better.

Average Session Duration

This section lists the five pages with the highest average session duration.

The average duration for a page is the total amount of time spent on that page (during the date range) divided by the number of sessions during that date range, then rounded to the nearest tenth of a second.

Traffic Sources

This section lists and displays in a pie chart the top websites sending traffic to your site. Each row also tells you whether the traffic was organic or referred traffic.

If you see (direct)/(none), that's traffic from bookmarked links or from typing/pasting in a URL for your site.

Hover over each slice of the pie to see which traffic source it is, the total number of visitors who came to your site from that source, and the percentage of the total (for the selected date range).

At the bottom of the list, you may see a gray up arrow, the numbers 1/2 or 1/3, and a blue down arrow. These indicate that there are more traffic sources. Click on the down arrow to see them.

Top Countries

This section lists and displays in a pie chart the top countries sending traffic to your site. If you see (not set), those visitors are hiding their location from Google Analytics.

Hover over each slice of the pie to see which country it is, the total number of visitors who came to your site from that country, and the percentage of the total (for the selected date range).

At the bottom of the list, you may see a gray up arrow, the numbers 1/2 or 1/3, and a blue down arrow. These indicate that there are more countries. Click on the down arrow to see them.

Devices

This section displays in a pie chart the percentage of traffic that each device type sent to your site, during the date range.

Hover over each slice of the pie to see the total number of visitors who came to your site from that device type, and the percentage of the total.

Screen Resolution

This section displays in a bar chart the total number of visitors using each screen resolution. These are ordered from highest traffic to lowest, not based on the resolution (screen size).

Resolutions starting with 414 or 375 are for mobile phones. The largest resolutions (e.g., 1366 x 768) are tablet and desktop devices.
