Domain Name Transfers
If you have read DAY 5, have considered various domain names, and still think that a name you own is the best option for your site, then your next step is to transfer the domain name over to SiteSell's registrar.
About 90% of this process takes place at the name's current registrar. And there are several possible issues that can go wrong. To reduce the chance of a problem occurring, which can delay the transfer, we've included links to the transfer help for several of the most popular registrars.

Potential Transfer Issues
This is a list of the potential problems you may face while trying to transfer your domain name. Reading the information provided by your current registrar will help you avoid them.
(These rules govern all registrars. We have no control over these matters.)
-
You cannot transfer your domain name if it's less than 60 days old, or if any changes to the Registrant's information on the domain registration were made in the previous 60 days.
Either of these scenarios automatically puts a domain name on a 60-day hold, so a transfer is impossible during the remainder of that 60-day period.
-
The email address of your admin contact may be defunct, so you will not receive the requests for confirmation. You need to update the email address of the Administrative Contact with your current registrar before you can even initiate the transfer.
A reputable registrar will assist you in making the change. We're simply the receiving registrar, so we have no control over these matters.
-
Even if the admin contact is active, people often miss the email from us that asks the user to confirm the transfer (we're obliged to request this).
If you have "domain privacy" enabled for your domain name, their email forwarding service often mistakenly considers the "Transfer Away Confirmation" as spam and something to be deleted.
-
Your registration status may be "on hold."
-
The Internet has a "security system" in place to make sure that transfers cannot be done by anyone other than the owner. Unfortunately, that puts all kinds of steps into the process that make it tricky and difficult, all of which are beyond our ability to help.
One other note about transfers...
We cannot offer a discount for transfers because it costs us the same to register a transferred domain name as it does to register a new one.
Solo Build It! (SBI!) Transfer Process
If you're ready to begin the transfer process, enter the domain name you want to transfer and click on Search.
If the name is not yet unlocked at the current registrar, you'll see a large yellow box, indicating this. You'll have to unlock it before you can proceed with the transfer.
To test that the unlock was successful, enter the domain name again and and click on Search. You'll see a large green box when the name can be transferred. Click on Transfer.
If the domain registrar does not accept any of your account information that SBI! used to populate the registration form, you'll see a Contact Details page. Please review the red error messages and make the required corrections. Then click on the Transfer button.
You'll then see another green box, telling you that the transfer is in progress.
Your "old" site (if you have one) will continue to be seen at the old host until the domain name moves to the new registrar.
Very Important
Read the entire message on this page. It provides information about what happens next, including the two emails you'll receive in just a few minutes. You must read them and act, or we cannot request the transfer from your current registrar.
While you wait for the transfer, you can design your site and start building pages in SBI!.
As noted in one of the emails, once you can log into the Check Transfer Status tool, your domain name was successfully transferred. Your last step is to update the nameservers and the technical contact information. This is a one-click operation.
Once you've done that, your site will be available live on the Web within 24 hours.
