XML It!
XML It! allows you to upload .xml, .rss, or .rdf files to the root level of your site for RSS purposes. (Solo Build It! refers to these files as "XML" files.)
As part of the uploading process, this module verifies that the file has one of the three allowed extensions. It also validates the XML code.
Important Note:
XML files can be uploaded for a variety of purposes via the Upload Your Own HTML or Quick Upload It! tools. But, in this situation, the XML file is for RSS purposes. Uploading it via XML It! provides a clean URL, at the root level, instead of in the "support-files" directory.
For example...
https://www.yourdomainname.com/file.xml
Why and What Are You RSSing?
Step 1: Upload Your XML Files
- Click on the Browse button (Choose File if using Safari).
- Highlight the file you want to upload in the dialog box.
- Click on the Open button (Choose in Safari) in the dialog box.
- Repeat this process if you have more than one XML file to upload.
Step 2: Upload Updated HTML Files
- Click on the Browse button (Choose File in Safari).
- Highlight the file you want to upload in the dialog box.
- Click on the Open button (Choose in Safari) in the dialog box.
- Repeat this process if you have more than one updated HTML file to upload.
- Click on the XML It! button.
By the time you arrive here, you have more than likely updated web pages, released a newsletter, blogged, or otherwise created new content. And now...
You want to announce this new content to the world through the convenience of RSS. This requires uploading an XML file.
If you're using third-party blogging or other software that creates an XML file, you're all set. Simply follow XML It!'s Directions for Use.
Tips
-
Your XML file(s) will likely reference one or more HTML files (within the XML <link> tag) from your site.
XML It! will not let you upload new HTML files, so you must upload them with UYOH or Quick Upload It!.
-
After they're published, updated HTML pages can be uploaded through this module (if referenced in the XML file). Only upload those HTML files that you've changed since you last used XML It! -- this module will rebuild those pages.
-
Note that XML It! will not verify or analyze or submit your updated HTML file(s), nor will it recognize any new image files. For those needs, upload your HTML page through the Upload Your Own HTML module.
-
This module will not let you upload any HTML file (even if it has been previously uploaded properly) unless it's referenced in the XML file being uploaded (i.e., it appears within the <link> tag in the XML document).
