Text Link Block
Links belong right in the natural flow of the page's content, woven seamlessly into appropriate paragraphs. That's why they're called "in-context" text links.
Use text links to smoothly direct your visitors to valuable related pages within your site or to encourage them to visit your monetization models.
Do not relegate your income-producing links to a listing at the end of your TIER 2 or 3 page. Many visitors won't get to the bottom and those that do may assume that a sales pitch is coming next and they will ignore these links (or even worse, exit the site).
Text links also help Search Engines to deep-spider your site. Make it easier for them to do their job!
Example
Your TIER 2 links have two goals...
- First choice is to get the click to your income-generation source.
- Second choice is to get the click to your TIER 3 pages (or other related TIER 2 pages) that provide more details on the subject.
Tips
- Text: Enter the text that you want to appear as a link (i.e., underlined) here. Include the page's specific keyword and the destination page's specific keyword, whenever possible.
- Alignment: Select how you want the text link aligned on the page.
-
Choose Link: Click on the drop-down menu and select a link from your Link Library.
Or enter a new link. Give it a name in the entry box labeled "Name this link." Then copy-and-paste the destination URL into the box labeled "Enter URL."
- Mouseover Text: Enter the text you want the visitor to see in the status bar (lower left edge of the browser window) when hovering the mouse over this link.
- Open New Window: Choose whether or not you want the link to open in a new browser window.
-
Use your Specific Keyword in one or two text links on this page. The Search Engines love it. That's also why Analyze It! asks for the same thing.
The simplest way to meet this requirement is to put a text link at the end of your page that directs your visitors back to the home page and/or to its TIER 2 page. This mini-text Table of Contents is excellent for human navigation and for meeting "text link on-page criteria."
Include the specific keyword of the destination page as well as the specific keyword for the page you're building. For example, in the image above, the link could have said "...to Home Page." Instead, it says "...to Anguilla Beaches." This includes the specific keyword for the home page, which is "anguilla." Do this for links to the home page (from both TIER 2 and TIER 3 pages) and for links to TIER 2 pages from TIER 3 pages.
-
If you enter a new link using this block, you must enter the full URL (ex., http://www.anguilla-beaches.com) or the link will not work.
The "name" of a link is the "memory-jogging" name you will see in the Link Library. It's not the "clickable" text.
- To prevent typos, copy-and-paste the URL when you enter a new URL.
- If you want to enter an affiliate merchant's link that includes a graphic or javascript, you have to paste the code directly into a Text Block instead. The Link Library accepts URLs only (ex., http://www.anguilla-beaches.com).
- Note about Mouseover Text: Mouseover text only appears in some browsers. For example, both Internet Explorer and Firefox do not show this text. If you know that most of your visitors use one of those two browsers, you may decide not to add mouseover text.
-
An important note about Alignment: Choose "None" if you want this text link to be added onto the previous block. A good use for this is when you want to embed your text link within a sentence. Here's what it will look like...
Choose "Left," "Right," or "Center" if you are starting a new line with this text link (i.e., the block before this one is a Line Break or a Headline).
"Left," "Right," or "Center" works only if you have inserted a Line Break block or Headline block before this block.
- Open a new window if this link sends that person out of your site. That way, after your visitor closes the new window, your site will still be there underneath, waiting to greet your visitor all over again!
- If you are linking within your site (i.e., to another page in your site), then do not open a new window. It only annoys your visitors.
- When you preview the page, test the link to make sure it goes where you want it to go.
