Manage Comments
As the number of submissions you've added to your site increases, so will the number of comments you receive. You manage them submission by submission.
If you opted to receive notification of new comments, click on the link in that message to determine which submission received the comment, and to read the comment. If you want to edit it or delete it, you do that using this tool page.
If you opted to require a review before publishing all comments (per invitation), you do that here as well, using the same process.
When the first comment is received for a published submission, it can take up to 30 minutes before the link to the comments page will appear at the top of the submission page.
Note
On the Manage Comments page, each new comment is flagged by the word NEW. These are the new comments since your last visit to this page. The word NEW will disappear for all new comments after you visit that page, whether you edit them or not. If you require a review before publication, each unpublished comment (new or existing) will also display Pending beside the title. So review and handle all new comments, or all that require a review, during that visit.
Editing and Saving or Reviewing and Publishing Comments
- Click on the comment you want to edit/review.
- Edit the title or the content of the comment.
- Click on the Save Edit button, or...
- If you require a review, make your changes and click on the Publish button.
- Click on the Cancel button or the Close Editor link to keep the original comment intact.
Editing a comment is easy. Simply click on anything related to that comment (date, rating, title or commenter's name (which will often be Anonymous).
Clicking opens an edit window. Make any desired changes to the title and content, then click on the Save Edit button.
If you require a review of all comments, click on any comment that shows Pending. The edit window will open. Make any changes to the title and content, then click on the Publish button. Note that the button will always read Publish instead of "Save Edit" if you require a review before publication.
Clicking on Publish will make the comment go live on the comments page for the associated submission.
Tips
- Avoid editing the comment to the point where it sounds more like your writing than the commenter's. Stick to fixing typos, spelling and grammar errors, etc.
- If you edit a comment, you can edit it again, but you must first return to Manage Existing Submissions/Comments (click on the Cancel button at the bottom of the page), and then click again on the comments link for that particular submission.
Deleting Comments
- Click on the comment you want to delete.
- Click on the Delete button.
Deleting a comment is even easier than editing one. Click on anything related to the comment you want to delete. When the editing window opens, click on the Delete button.
The comment will disappear from the page, letting you move on to the next comment to edit or delete.
Tip
- You cannot undo a deletion. Be very certain that you want to take that action before clicking on the Delete button, as there is no confirmation step before the comment is deleted.
Deleting and Banning
- Click on the comment you want to delete and ban.
- Click on the Delete and Ban button.
Deleting and Banning works the same way as deleting, but it also prohibits that commenter from leaving comments on all of the submissions on your site.
To delete a comment and ban the commenter, click on anything related to that comment. Once the edit window opens, click on the Delete and Ban button.
Tip
- You cannot undo a deletion, or "unban" a banned commenter. Be very certain that you want to take those actions before clicking on the Delete and Ban button.
